For many, going back to school is a chore. When Ciel Phantomhive entered Weston College, everyone thought that would be the only surprise. But then you joined…

Perhaps there is more to ‘going back to school’?

Clouds smeared the sky a dull grey, students carrying on with their lives. Pinning a deep purple flower into your hair, you carried on walking to your dorm like everyone else. “Weston College is bor-ing.” Your eyes flickered onto each of the students, a minor sigh escaping your lips. But two people caught your eye. “Phantomhive!” The name was at your lips, and instinctively, you called out, remembering not to call people using their first names. Almost in an instant, the fragile looking boy walked up to you, looking ‘cheerful’ as ever.

“It is you!” Immediately, a smile appeared on your face. “What brings you back to school? Orders, I bet.” No response. “Stingy as ever I see…”
“What about you, what brings you to Weston College? You know that you- …never mind. If you’ll excuse me.” That was the end of an already stale conversation. Despite the Earl being as friendly as ever, you smile and wave. “Ah the dorm… Where was it again?” You spoke aloud, not paying any attention to the outside world.

“Are you lost?” A gentle voice asked from behind. Turning, a rose was all you could see.
“Ah, yes. It’s my first day here and I- Could you direct me to the Scarlet Wolf Dormitory, please?” You looked down, not liking the thought of making eye contact. “Violet will show you the way.” The young man directed you to someone you hadn’t noticed before, even though he had seemingly been stood there from the start.
“Thank you.”

After settling in properly, you sighed, rather frustrated. “You’re the new student, right?” The sound of a door opening filled your ears, but you ignored it. “Yes, I am. Nice to meet ya’, new roommate.”

A couple of minor introductions. “You’ll probably have to take out that flower. Only prefects and prefects’ fags get to wear them.” With another sigh, you took out the flower, placing it on the windowsill. “So only prefects get to wear flowers…” So that guy I saw before was a prefect, huh? “I’m starting properly tomorrow, so I’ll be going to sleep now. Goodnight.”

At that, your world went blank.
If only you had known what was yet to come.

“Newbie, the P4 are asking for you?”
“The P4, really?”
“Who are they? They only got here, yesterday!”

Rumours began to spread like wildfire, as you patiently drank your morning tea. “The P4? You mean Violet and…” What was his name? There were two others yesterday as well… You stood up, but it was too late. A man with spiked up hair and several piercings walked in, seemingly there to retrieve you.

The two of you left, leaving behind a very confused group of fellow Violet Wolf students. “Where are we going?” You asked, but he didn’t answer. “Hello? Are you in there?” No reply. “Tch, that’s not very polite, you know. I don’t even know what to call you.”
Before long, you arrived at a pavilion structure, a swan like figure on its top. Flowers of several hues surrounded it, giving it a sort of ‘forbidden’ aura. It seemed that if you stepped inside, you’d soil something beautiful. “I brought them.”

Inside was something not many people ever got to see. The blonde boy that helped you before lounged on a sofa, being served tea by someone else. Violet, on the other hand, looked rather entertained by mixing drinks together. “Hello, again.” You greet, slightly terrified at this situation. “You wanted to see me?”
“Introductions should come first. I’m Redmond. You’ve already met Violet. The man reading the book is Bluer and the one lifting weights is Greenhill. With that, you’ve met all of the prefects.”
“It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I’m-”
“We know who you are.” Bluer interrupts. “You’re here to discuss your ‘circumstances’.”
With that the room fell silent for a moment. “Don’t worry, you aren’t going to be punished. In fact, the principal wanted us to inform you that you can attend this school like every other student.”

“Thank you for telling me, Bluer. And thanks for bringing me here… Your name is…?” A gentle smile filled your face, directed at the boy who brought you there. “Cheslock.” His face reddens slightly, causing you to stifle a laugh.

Actually, you found your time rather enjoyable at a place you’ll later learn to be called ‘Swan Gazebo’.

Night soon arrived, leaving you to go back to your dorm. But Violet stopped you, handing you a letter. “It’s from him.” Was all he told you. Ripping the envelope, your eyes’ lapped up the contents.

‘A fleeting moment,
stifling beautiful like a flower.
A fleeting moment,
lovely like a flower.
Perhaps twas a destined meeting.
Destined to meet such a lovely rose.’

After reading the contents, you smiled, your face rather red, a smile plastered to your face. “Thanks, Violet.” You whispered, knowing that the letter wasn’t from him, but a different prefect.
That night, you drew. Sketches of the flowers you saw were your muse, words being painted onto the canvas as well.
Tomorrow.

---

Sun shone evanescently the next morning, brightening an otherwise darkened world. You smiled, quite happy for once; considering it was so early. Putting the once abandoned flower into your hair, you left after drinking some tea.
Swiftly you ran, your eyes searching for the familiar crimson ribbon of a certainprefect. “Redmond…” You whispered to yourself, desperate to find him.
So you searched. And searched. Until, finally, you found him, sat at a bench, seemingly taking a moment to admire the scenery. “Redmond, um…” Seconds later, his eyes locked onto yours, and you smiled. “Here, for you.” Edgar Redmond stood up, accepting your art.
“Thank you, it’s beautiful.” His hands went down to your collar, his eyes no longer on yours. “Wha-?”

“Your tie was crooked.” He explained, smiling. “You look disappointed.” Edgar Redmond smiled once more, but wider than before.
“Thank you.” Words came out of your mouth, whilst noting every detail of his scarlet eyes. “I appreciate it, Redmond.”
His arms wrapped around you, placing a kiss to your forehead. “When we’re together, you should call me Edgar.” After that, he handed you a rose, and slipped a piece of paper into your pocket.
“I’ll treasure you’re this gift.”

Only later that night, did you read his latest poem.
‘Yesterday, a flower blossomed
embracing all in their grace,
stopping the hearts of many.
Today, I fell ill
the ailment’s name being ‘love’.

Tomorrow, I wait
in hopes that the flower will reach out to me once more.
Enflaming my life even more than before.’

With a candle as your light, you sat on your bed, reading each word over and over. “You’re awfully cheerful.” Your roommate noted.
“I guess you could say that. I guess going back to school isn’t half bad after all.” Damn, things happen quickly. Was the thought that occupied your mind. That was how you found something rather electrifying in an otherwise boring school.

Maybe there really is something more to ‘going back to school’?
Woops, this took far to long to actually submit... This an extremely last minute entry for a 'going back to school' competition.
